Teď Metallica vydává záznam z těchto koncertů. Album nese název S&M a v Evropě vychází v pondělí 22. listopadu 1999 na dvojcédéčku. Koncerty natáčel i tým režiséra Wayneho Ishama, a tak bude album dostupné i na videokazetě VHS, která vychází ve stejný den jako na CD. Příznivci technického pokroku si budou moci videozáznam z koncertů vychutnat ve špičkové kvalitě, protože v lednu 2000 vyjde S&M i na dvou DVD discích. Ty budou oproti VHS verzi obsahovat navíc i záběry ze zákulisí a umožní pohrát si se zvukem - divák si bude moci zvolit, zda chce poslouchat Metallicu a orchestr společně, nebo jen Metallicu, případně jen orchestr. Metallica při příležitosti vydání alba odehraje ještě další dva koncerty s orchestry - 19. listopadu v Berlíně a 23. listopadu v New Yorku. Album S&M obsahuje 2 hodiny a 20 minut hudby a dvě nové skladby, složené těsně před koncerty v dubnu - pomalou, ale přesto pořádně "heavy" skladbu "- Human" (čti majnus hjumn) a "No Leaf Clover" která je typickou metallickou baladou - jemné pasáže se střídají s tvrdšími. Druhá zmiňovaná novinka by podle posledních informací měla být i prvním singlem z připravovaného alba. A nyní přichází S&M. S tímto albem Metallica boří další bariéry, a také původní představy o tom co je a co není Metallica. Autor textu:

21. a 22. dubna 1999 se v Berkeley Community Theatre v San Franciscu
uskutečnily dva velmi neobyčejné koncerty - Metallica se spojila se slavným
skladatelem filmové hudby a dirigentem Michaelem Kamenem a se
Sanfranciským symfonickým orchestrem. Na koncertech zazněly skladby ze
všech alb, jen debut Kill 'Em All vyšel tentokrát výjimečně
naprázdno.
